In Wenham, MA, the client chose to site his family home on acreage acquired from a former estate. To maintain the pastoral character of the wooded setting, OLD&D’s team designed a 5,000 sf shingle-style residence. Careful orientation and siting of the house and its outdoor recreational amenities, such as a swimming pool, to take advantage of southern exposure and to blend into the sloped hillside, mark the interface between the firm’s architecture and the outdoor spaces in which it is nestled. On the exterior, wood shingles, pitched roofs and senstitive references to historic New England style contributes to the sense that this home was built at the turn of the 19th century, not in the last decade.
