OLD&D’s design team created an innovative master plan, for this independent school grades Pre-K to six, that addressed the need to build a new library, computer lab and gymnasium on a small campus in a densely-populated neighborhood.

The library interior its custom-built cherry-stained bookcases and elegant coffered ceiling, recalls the neoclassical formality of an early 20th century library. It was inspired by the school’s original interior spaces. A mezzanine creates the illusion of a two-story space, and dormer windows flood the room with natural light. The reading hall’s focal point, which brings the lofty space down to a child’s perspective, is an arrangement of reading chairs and work spaces in front of a working fireplace.
