Belmont Day School sought to meet it’s ambitious academic goals, while retaining its intimate scale. Located in a residential area, the school’s student population and spatial requirements continued to increase. OLD&D’s design team proposed a comprehensive new wing to house new classrooms and other shared educational resources under one contiguous roof line.

The project also included a new gymnasium within the new wing. To address issues of scale and site challenges, the gymnasium was built into the hillside. This concept maintained the idea of intimate campus scale on both interior and exterior. The former gym, which existed in a prefabricated industrial building, was re-clad and re-purposed as a performing arts space and interactive classroom.
