Broad Institute occupies 40,000 sf of offices and labs that are specially designed for their specific needs. OLD&D adapted the building to more fully meet Broad’s unique needs, the first priority was given to labs. These labs include chemistry labs, cell biology labs, and finishing labs. Workspaces include specialized equipment such as proteomix instrumentation labs and robotics capabilities.

Architectural designers overcame the challenges of a pre-existing structure, and turned its constraints to their advantage. Office and open workspaces were allocated to the perimeter of the building, while labs occupy the core of the structure. These labs are laid out to optimize workflow and encourage communication, creating a favorable dynamic between workspaces.
